What A Cool Idea!
I was just tuned into this novel podcasting idea today: DVD commentaries in podcast form. Damn! What didn't I think of that first? Anywho, here is a DVD commentary by The Spoilers for the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. This particular commentary features none other than the Code Monkey himself, Jonathan Coulton. Just pop the DVD in and press play along with the podcast and you are transported to an MST-type world. Damn, what a great idea.

Today in Podcasting
I had the honor of being a guest on Today in Podcasting last week. We chatted about the show, the podcaster art calendar, about podcasting in general and broken caveman speak. One of the hosts had some serious Skype problems and couldn't talk in complete sentences. Poor guy. It's actually one of the best interviews I feel I've done about the show. Plus, Today in Podcasting is a great podcast. My part comes in around 34:00 minutes into the show.

Happy President's Day!
Yet another visual interpretation of the Thing A Week. This time the song is called The Presidents. I'm too lazy to write down my comments again on this blog, so you can see my comments on this foray into digital painting at my Flickr page.
Even More Hodgman and Coulton Magic
Yes, you may think this blog is just a conduit for Jonathan Coulton and John Hodgman, and that we are just shills for them, but I can't get enough of these guys. I was sent a link to Bookcast featuring Hodgman and Coulton performing the Areas of My Expertise theme song and of course, Hobo Matters. It's a really cool podcast and well worth a listen especially if you've never seen Hodgman and Coulton live, like us. Check out the Bookcast here. Thanks to Diane for the link.

Mad Creator
Seems like there's been nothing but wonderful creative inspiration filling the Jawbone e-mail box lately. here's nother incredibly inspiring art site courtesy of Tracy: Mad Creator. Between this site and Dave Devries over the weekend, I think you can expect some totally cool art coming soon from the Jawbone Studios.

My Collaboration with Dave Devries
On show 108, our guest Dave Devries mentioned that we would collaborate on a drawing after the podcast. After we went off air, we went downstairs and very sleepily worked on a drawing together. I only wish it would had been earlier and we would have had more time. As it turned out, we were both dead tired and all I could think of drawing was a 50's style robot. Dave ended up doing most of the work, but he did an incredible job of inking in my lame pencil. Anywho, here is the fruits of one of the coolest weekends I've spent in a while. Thanks Dave for trying to do the best with my art.

Jawbone #108: The Dave Devries Special Collectors Issue
Tonight's show is a total geek fest, as we welcome legendary comic book artist Dave Devries into the Nobby Annex studios. You may remember Dave from last summer's show 50, where he talked about his project called The Monster Engine. He returns on this show to discuss the atrwork of our kids for The Monster Engine 2. He also talks about comics and art in general. He's a real comic book guy. Crashing at our house! It's a definite must hear!

Code Monkey
Here's another installment of art for Jonathan Coulton's Thing A Week. This week, it's a visual interpretation of the song we played from show #107, Code Monkey. I didn't like my first drawing, so I did one more. Me think me like new one better.
UPDATE: The Code Monkey drawing has been Wiki'ed! Thanks Scot for uploading it for me. I am an Adam Curry when it comes to the Wiki interface. Just don't get it.
ANOTHER UPDATE: I got this e-mail from Eric. Hilarious.

Yes, But What Is Stupid?
Alighty-then. A new site allows you to host videos as long as they are stupid:
StupidVideos.com announced today the launch of Personal Video Logs, a free video sharing service. The site lets members use their Stupid Video Log to upload and share video, find and communicate with friends, and to discuss their favorite user-generated videos and their creators.Yes, but my question is, what constitutes stupid? One man's stupid is another man's S-M-R-T. Check out the full story here. Via VPN.

Adam Curry Gets His Own Trading Card
Courtesy of ThoseBastards.com:
Adam Curry, known lovingly as the "podfather" to about five people in the blogosphere and the guy that screwed Dave Winer by any blogger with a sense of fair play, is the driving profiteer and snake oil salesman behind the force called podcasting.Download the card here. Thanks to DJ Hojo for the link.

Photoshop Image with 15,000 Layers
For those of you who use Photoshop, you should get a kick out of this. Even if you don't, you will still get a kick out of it.
Artist Bert Monroy released his latest Photoshop painting this week after 11 months of work with an estimated 2,000 hours. The attention to detail is amazing in this 10 foot wide posterSee the thread about it here. And read about it at Mr. Monroy's site. Thanks to Derek for the link.
• The image size is 40 inches by 120 inches.
• The flattened file weighs in at 1.7 Gigabytes. (Thats flattened, WITHOUT the layers!)
• It took eleven months (close to 2,000 hours) to create.
• The painting is comprised of close to fifty individual Photoshop files.
• Taking a cumulative total of all the files, the overall image contains over 15,000 layers.
• Over 500 alpha channels were used for various effects.
• Over 250,000 paths make up the multitude of shapes throughout the scene.

Week Of The Curse Of The WereRabbit
So, I was just on the latest epsiode of Extra Life Radio tonight, and one of the things we talked about was the crappy movie of the week called Night of the Lepus starring Deforrest Kelly. A movie about giant killer bunny rabbits. And then, I see this...
LONDON (AFP) - In a tale reminiscent of the last Wallace and Gromit movie, furious villagers in northeast England have hired armed guards to protect their beloved communal vegetable gardens from a suspected monster rabbit.Read the full story here.
My Dot-Comic
I think I may have posted this at one time, but I think enough time has passed that I can repost it. Plus, I was egged on by Nic at the Comics Symposium to put it on our blog. So here it is: my short foray into web comics.
The time was circa 2001, a pre- 9/11 summer and I was looking for a way to merge my writing and art into one fun project. So I came up with IP a dot-comic that dealt with superheroes who only had their superpowers when they were logged onto the net. A funny idea. And it proved to be successful up to a point. But I just ran out of steam. Anywho, it was a fun experiment and I have some pretty cool art to show for it.
You can read the few strips of the comic here. Enjoy!

Link Dump: Round Up Of Random Weird Stuff
As you can imagine, we get a lot of odd stuff submitted to Jawbone, both for the blog and for the podcast. And sometimes it's difficult to get everything posted in a timely manner. So what I've decided to do is do some "spring cleaning" and post a bunch of links to odd stuff people have sent the show over the past few weeks.
From DJ Hojo:
The Official Meat of NASCAR
(BTW, if you're at all into electronic music and alternative from the early 90s, check out DJ's newly redesigned blog.)
From Dennis in Santa Cruz:
The Felton Bigfoot Museum -- There's a guy who collects Bigfoot stool samples quoted in the story.
From Wayne in the UK:
Japanese Rope Jumping Video - He said I would enjoy this. And I did!
He also sent a pretty cool video of wildly improbable pool shots.
From Matt:
Bullet Angelica -- A comic book written as it goes along -- an artist gets a 400 x 400 pixel panel and then it's posted online. Then the next person picks up where the last panel ended. Pretty random and very cool!
A Monk-E Mail from Bill. It's sort of creepy, and it's branded from Career Builder, but how can you not love talking monkeys?
Keep the links coming folks! And if I don't get your link up in a timely manner, I'll probably do more link dumps in the future.

More Coulton Cross Promotion
Yesterday, we made an overture to you, dear blog reader, to help us bring musician Jonathan Coulton to our fine city. We're still hoping that those of you who aren't in Cleveland still ask Mr. Coulton to come out to Cleveland. And if you do, we expect you to come to Cleveland and watch him play his music and wash our cars. But to further entice Mr. Coulton to come to town ( as well as thank him for letting us play his music on a regular segment on the show) I've decided to draw original artwork to go along with his Thing A Week.
This week, the song is called When You Go and it has nothing to do with Ernie Bushmiller's Nancy cartoon. I just have a thing for Nancy. You can purchase and download the song from his site. You can also subscribe to his podcast and get the song when he uploads it. But if you can, give the guy some cash. If not for his music, then for the hell of a job he does mowing lawns.

What the...?
Maybe you can figure this out.

Drawing Purty
Dang. Put this in the "Totally Inspired" category. I wish I could. But Blogger doesn't do categories. Anywho, check out some of these amazing themed illustrations from The Ringling School of Art and Design. If this doesn't make you want to pick up your sharpie and 4H pencil, I don't know what will.
Thanks to Tracey for the link.

Jawbone LIVE!
I've been thinking about doing a live version of the podcast, meaning it would still be an MP3 file, but you would be able to call in and interact with us. I'd like to know if we set up a specific time when you'd be able to Skype in, would anyone do that? Or would it be too difficult to pull off?
Let us know by leaving a commenty-thing for us. Or call our voicemail line at 206.666.2326.

Help Us Bring Jonathan Coulton to Cleveland
As you probably know, Nora and I are big Jonathan Coulton fans and supporters. Along with the new segment on our show, Thing A Week, Mr. Coulton has also agreed to wash our cars during summer months and hopefully, paint the trim on our house. Here's the problem: Mr. Coulton really has no reason to come to Cleveland to do these things.
This is where Eventful comes in. With just a few clicks, you can actually DEMAND that Jonathan Coulton come to your town, do your laundry, clean up the sick in your hallways and visit your relatives. Oh, and while he is in town, he'll play his music. Live and in person.
We've started a demand at Eventful for Jonathan Coulton to come to Cleveland. There are also other cities that are demanding him, but let's see if we can't get him to our place first. After all, our dishwasher is broken and that caked on lasagna isn't going to scrape itself off.

Happy Birthday, Nora!
Today is Nora's birthday. As a special treat, I am posting this video of Scott Johnson's Diary of A Cartoonist. Scott drew the art for Nora's card this year. Usually, I draw her card, but she has so many cards with my art that I decided to have someone else take a stab at it. Pretty neat stuff! Thanks for your help Scott!

Jawbone #105: Zombies, Monsters and Louisville Don't Mix
Nora is not feeling well tonight, so I am doing a dreaded solocast. I can't believe I did a whole half hour. We introduce a new segment called "The Jonathan Coulton Thing A Week." We're proud to feature Mr. Coulton's music, and if you enjoy it, go and buy his music from his store. I think I also get some facts wrong about Louisville, KY. Maybe I should do a better job of preparing my notes.

Doing Anything This Saturday?
We'll probably talk about this on our upcoming show, but I just wanted to remind people that if you are in the Cleveland area this weekend, I will be making an appearance at the Lakeland College Comics Symposium Saturday, April 8. I will be one of the featured speakers of the day, along with Lee Salem, Executive VP and Editor for Universal Press Syndicate and American Splendor's Harvey Pekar. I will be speaking about the Bill Watterson podcast from last November. This event is free and open to the public, and most likely I will be podcasting from it.
You can read more information about the Symposium here.
