Look What I Got For Christmas!

Remember a little game called Super Mario Brothers? Well, someone decided to make a knockoff of it, and from the video, it looks to be one of the stupidest, most frustrating games this side of Fester's Quest. If you've played any videogame of any kind, you'll understand how incredible this video is. The good news is that you can download the game and play it for yourself (click the first link). And while you're at it, be sure to check out these other table-pounding, controller-throwing videos here. Seriously, this has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in a LONG time. Thanks to The Eye-bott for the link.

Halo: Combat Part 3 Trailer

I can't believe I haven't seen this until now. I am way behind the times, but I was still impressed with this short film apparently done for the Discovery Channel that uses the same team that is working on the Halo film. Doing a little more digging, I found that although the shorts (of which there are three) look very much like the movie, they actually have very little to do with the film. Either way, really cool work. It's definitely blurred the lines between live action and the in-game experience. Check it out!

ON EDIT: Dang, it's gone. :(

My Beige Bear

My Beige Bear
Originally uploaded by jawboneradio.
I like Jonathan Coulton, for the only reason, that he allows me to draw things other than monsters. This is a visual response to his new song, "My Beige Bear". Incidentally, I really like the comic styling of these guys. I want to see more of Indigo and how he interacts with Beige. If you've heard the song, there is a host of other built-in characters in the song. Maybe I'll take a stab at a webcomic using these guys. I guess we'll see.

Jawbone #187: Nora's Return

On tonight's show, Nora returns from her hiatus to record the last show of the year! We chat a little bit about Christmas, gifts and heck, whatever -- it's just good to have her back as my co-host. Enjoy the show!

Green Team!

More reason to love Wil Ferrel and John C. Reilly. I wonder how they're working on this stuff due to the writer's strike. Is it because it's web-based that it's cool? Or was this done before the strike. Questions. Questions. Thanks to DJ Hojo for this. WARNING: Contains NSFW language, so please watch accordingly. Enjoy!

Leno and Conan to Return in New Year - Sans Writers

This could prove to be interesting viewing.
"NBC HOSTS JAY LENO AND Conan O'Brien have agreed to bring new episodes of their respective late-night shows back to NBC starting Jan. 2--but without their writing staffs, the network said Monday.

"Unfortunately, now with the New Year upon us, I am left with a difficult decision," O'Brien said. "Either go back to work and keep my staff employed or stay dark and allow 80 people, many of whom have worked for me for 14 years, to lose their jobs. If my show were entirely scripted, I would have no choice. But the truth is that shows like mine are hybrids, with both written and non-written content. An unwritten version of "Late Night," though not desirable, is possible--and no one has to be fired."'
I know I'll be Tivoing Conan, just to see what happens. Read the full story here.

Depp and Burton: They Should Be Mummies!

Here's a great video of a recent interview with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp talking about thier new movie Sweeny Todd. About 1:30 in, listen to the question the interviewer asks. The reaction is priceless, and quite rare to see Johnny Depp being "normal" Thanks to Monica for the link. See the whole vid here.

New Dark Knight Trailer Online

This was actually leaked on YouTube last week, but the new hi-def trailer was just released here. Can anyone say "wet pants"? And while you're at it, check out these one sheets. Glorious! So next summer, we have Iron Man, Batman, Hulk (I think). Any more you can think of?

Lincoln's Tomb Goes Green

Got this the other day from Dan and Julie Coulter:
"Hey Len -

I just found out that Lincoln's Tomb in Springfield, IL is going to be heated and cooled by geothermal power. Dan and I think that they're saying geothermal to cover up the fact that they've harnessed the power of Lincoln's ghost."
See the story for yourself!

Celebrate Christmas in Old Timey Radio Style

Shawn also sends this cool find. (Maybe I should check my inbox better before posting). Looking for some cool old-timey radio programs to listen to while wrapping gifts or getting sauced on eggnog? Check out this site, run by Shawn, that features tons of old time radio broadcasts and other gems. I especially like the Batman and Superman Christmas. Enjoy!

That Song From That Spot

Shawn sends this dandy find in. Ever want to know what that one song from that commercial you saw last night was? Well worry no longer with this site. As far as I can tell, it gives a description of the spot and the song from the background. Perfect for those of us who have no idea how to find new music! It's just starting up so not every song or commercial in is the database, but it's a start at least.

Iron Man VideoGame Trailer

Hey now, this looks pretty cool. Most of the time, videogame/movie tie-ins end up being pretty lame. But this trailer actually gives me some hope for the movie and the game. This summer is shaping up to be one heck of a time for comic fans, eh?

The Internet Is Eating Itself

Man, I wish I was able to be at this Coulton show. Paul, Storm, Joco and internet Code Monkey dancer Emily appeared live at Shuba's in Chicago for the first time. Long story short, Coulton writes a song. Emily dances to it. People start doing the dance at Coulton shows. Emily becomes an internet superstar. Voila! It's that easy! It was a rare treat to see internet fame spill out into real life. Luckily, through the magic of the internets once again, we get to watch this momentous moment. Enjoy!

Batman Viral Marketing

I tell you I'm a sucker for this stuff. And it looks like they creative team is going all out on this viral campaign for the next Batman movie.

Check this out: It's a viral site linked to the upcoming Batman movie. The site has you looking for clues all around different cities. There is a clue in Cleveland and I think I'll go check it out next week. I'm pretty sure I know where it is. If anyone else is reading these clues in the cities listed, let us know what you find. I'd be interested to see how this all fits together.

ON EDIT: It looks like the puzzle has already been solved with the photos. Pretty cool!

Filipinos Are Taking Over The World!

Got this in the inbox this morning from listeners Tim and Nanette. Even if you're not a Journey fan, this is pretty incredible:
"Meet the Philippines' Arnel Pineda (that's "pin-eh-da"), the most recent man responsible for encouraging those wonderful YouTubes of nobodys covering somebodys we all love so. Journey's needed a lead singer, and guitarist Neal Schion told Blabbermouth:

I was frustrated about not having a singer, so I went on YouTube for a couple of days and just sat on it for hours. I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found THE ZOO and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted. After watching the videos over and over again, I had to walk away from the computer and let what I heard sink in because it sounded too good to be true. I thought, 'he can't be that good.' But he is that good, he's the real deal and so tremendously talented."
Anyway, check this guy out. And here's the full story. This gives hope to Filipinos everywhere. Maybe my dream of being the lead singer for Ratt will finally be fulfilled.

Filiinos Living in A Mausoleum

For those of you who enjoyed the last podcast with Art and our cryptic Filipino speak, may I submit this for your perusal. Turns out that there are more people alive in a local filipino mausoleum than dead, or so it would seem:
"10,000 Filipino families live in this massive graveyard in Manila. I recently spent five days walking among its residents taking photos and hearing stories of struggle and survival.

Some families ended up here almost accidentally. Some inherited the mausoleums that they now live in from their great-grandparents. Others came from the provinces and couldn’t make enough money to live in the big city. In all cases, they’re basically families with nowhere else to go."
Read the full story here. Thanks to Art (of course) for the link.

Evel - Dead

Ladies and Gentlemen, daredevil Evel Knieval is dead.
"Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills."
See the whole story here. Thanks for Mark for the heads up.

Zombie Roaches?! AIGH!

Got this from an Monster By Mail fan today:
"Israeli scientists have figured out how turn cockroaches into zombie slaves. They're replicated the mysterious power of the jewel wasp, also known as the emerald cockroach wasp, which incorporates the cockroach into its reproductive cycle in a most gruesome way."
Check it out here.

Coming Soon: Monster #1000

Believe it or not, I am less than 100 orders away from drawing my 1000th Monster By Mail. For this monumental moment, I wanted to do something special. So here's the deal, folks. If you are the lucky person to order the 1000th monster, your order will be done up as a 9 x 12 image (instead of the regular 4 x 6) and painted, ready for framing.

Since this is the holiday season, there's no telling when I may reach this milestone, so order today! Plus. if you want to ensure you get your monster in time for Christmas, get your order in by December 17th. (Remember if you're outside the US, the cut off date will most likely be the 15th.) So head on over to Monster By Mail and order today!

Not The Same Sesame Street

I found this story pretty interesting:
The earliest episodes of “Sesame Street” are available on digital video! Break out some Keebler products, fire up the DVD player and prepare for the exquisite pleasure-pain of top-shelf nostalgia. Just don’t bring the children. According to an earnest warning on Volumes 1 and 2, “Sesame Street: Old School” is adults-only: “These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”

Monster #900!

I've been so busy, I totally overlooked that I received my 900th Monster By Mail order yesterday. I will probably be drawing it in the next day or so, so I'll update this post when that happens. If you haven't been one of the people who have ordered one of the 900 drawings I've done since March, this is the perfect time! I still have some time before Christmas and as you know original monster drawings make wonderful holiday gifts under the family tree!
