Borderline's Winning Entry

By now, you may all have heard that Neil, Danni and Lynn from the Borderline won the Pez MP3 player on the Big Birthday Show. But because of time constraints on the show, I was unable to play the entire entry. Well, here it is! All 15 minutes of it. Enjoy! And congrats once again to the Borderline.

Bathtime in Clerkenwell

Some people seemed to really like the music we played on Show 79 and we're happy to tell you that there is a video that goes along with the music. Seems pretty appropriate, as the vidcast revolution seems to be taking over podcasting. In fact, I was just interviewed about vidcasting today by a freelance reporter from Wired Magazine.

Check it out and enjoy!

Porky from Our Gang, Dead at 71

I found out last night that Porky from Our Gang passed away over the weekend.

Sad news, indeed. But check out these photos:

Hard to believe it's the same guy. Where's the chubby cherubic-like face? And was I the only one who thought that Porky was Asian?

Anyway, thanks to EL for the heads up.

Jawbone #78: Hometown Tales Meets Jawbone Radio

Hey gang! It's a joint show. And no, there are no drugs involved. Gene from one of our favorite podcasts, Hometown Tales, stops by as a live, in-studio guest and we do what we feel is a podcasting first. Four hosts. Two Styles. One Show. Pretty neat cross-promotion, we think. Listen in and celebrate Halloween, Jawbone style!

Also, don't forget to get your entires in for the big Jawbone Radio Pez Mp3 Giveway. Tune into the end of the show to find out how to enter. The deadline is Friday, October 28th.

There are a ton of links from this show, and I need to link them up, so stay tuned for that.

Can I wear your hairy hat?

From the Jamacia Star:
Darain Housen has not taken off his hat for the last 20 years. He bathes, he sleeps and does everything possible in it. It is a perfect fit. But unlike other hats, his is not made of cloth but from the very hair on his head which is why it cannot be removed.

Quote of the day:

"Mi an dem fi go a di party but di three of them had caps an' mi had none so mi get two mirror one behind mi and di other in front of mi an' mi trim mi hair like a cap an' go a di dance," said Housen.

Well said, Hairy Hat Man. Read the full story here.

Flirting with WoW

I am toying with the idea of purchasing the MMORPG World of Warcraft for my Mac.

Someone please talk me out of this.

Total Bummer

I'm glad I grabbed a shot of our ranking in the Yahoo Podcast Directory the other day, because we are now completely gone. It doesn't make any sense, because some of the other podcasts that were ranked with us are still on the list, while we have completely dropped off. Plus, we have the same amount of reviews as some of the other casts that are in the top 25. I dunno. Maybe it's a conspiracy of the ARA. In any event, if you haven't given us a vote and a review, head on over to the directory and help us out.

Chew-Succa

I was at Halloween Express picking up some Halloween essentials this weekend, and I came across this costume:

Now, if anyone has ever seen Star Wars, you'd know that the mighty Chewbacca does not have a hard shell for a head. So why the hell they made this travesty of a costume is beyond me. It pretty much seals the fate of the kid wearing it that he will get his ass pummeled and his candy stolen. So before you sentence your child to this adolescent torture device, ask yourself parents, is it worth the $87.99 non-refundable cost? I think not.

Super Secret Podcast Guest -- Sign In

We mentioned on our last show that we were having a special guest podcaster joining us for an upcoming show. And now the truth can be told!

World-famous New Jersey podcaster Gene from Hometown Tales will be a special guest in-studio with us this weekend. Not only that, but we will doing a "joint podcast" where we will be recording both of our shows at the same time. We'll Skype Bryan in and we'll do show #78 of Jawbone and Show #38 of Hometown Tales. You'll hear Hometown Tales folklore and ghost stories while Nora and I punctuate these tomes with our silly comments. It should be a blast, so make sure you subscribe today!

TV as we know it is done.

I found this article humorous. Didn't TV execs realize that they were killing affifliates by going digital?

Apple's announcement last week it will air episodes of ABC's Lost and Desperate Housewives, among others, over it's new video iPod has caused concern among network affiliates who feel "off TV" viewing will hurt rating and/or make ratings in accurate, let alone destroy their business model. All the hand ringing that will, no doubt, go on for the next year or two surrounding this issue could easily be skipped with the simple acknowledgment that every bit of broadcast programming will ultimately be available for download with or without advertising, viewable on an iPod, a similar device, a PC or ported to and viewed on a TV. Current appointment television viewing as we know it will disappear. Current rating systems will become irrelevant. And the buying of "TV advertising" simply won't be the same.

Are we seeing the end of an era? Stick a fork in it.

Jawbone #77: The Sugar Coated Show

Not only is it a mincast. but also a solocast, as I record live from the Pop Shop Gallery in Lakewood during the opening night of the Sugar Coated Show in Lakewood. And lo and behold, it's the first actual real live appearance of Jawbone Show Producer, DJ Hojo! Listen as DJ walks through the gallery with his iron lung with his Nurse in tow. It's a pretty neat little show, peppered with delicious Halloween morsels. Dig in!

Opening Pandora's Box

Not to take any thunder away from great indie music podcasts, but I came across this really cool "radio-like" site, called Pandora. Type in a band or song you like, and it compiles and streams songs based on your preferences. The first 10 hours are free, then it's $36 to subscibe. Check it out. It's pretty neat.

Just a quick reminder - The Sugar Coated Show happens this Saturday. I'll probably be doing a show from there, so if you show up, you can be a part of an upcoming Jawbone!

Hope to see you all there.

Mini-MiniCast Call to Action

This is a super super small show, more of a special announcement really. Nora and I have assembled some pretty cool prize packages for a few lucky listeners that includes your own limited edition Pez Mp3 player filled with some very special Jawbone related content, CDs, T-shirts and more. Do you want to know how to win these prizes? Then listen in or download the show now.

This is our way of saying thanks for listening and supporting Jawbone!

UPDATE: I make a comment during the show that the Pez Mp3 player has a removeable head. This is not the case. The Pez head is not removeable on the player. Apparently, I thought that the hair and hats were interchangeable, but I got confused. Sorry for the mix up!

Make Your Own Head in A Jar

Hey, looking for something to gross out even the strongest stomach this Halloween? Why not make your own head in a jar? Check it out here.

Pez MP3 player now taking orders

This is a very cool idea. And just in time for Christmas, too!

One of our loyal listeners, Pat, has developed the world's first Pez Mp3 player. We recorded a greeting for the player a while back, so I don't know if we're actually pre-loaded on the player, but they're pretty nifty either way. Check it out here.

UPDATE: According to Pat, we aren't on the player. "I ended up dumping all the blogger/podcaster greetings from the first edition. There was too much variety in style and quality and I didn't have the editing ability to pull them into a coherent package. It is just going to have some indie bands on it instead." Bummer. But it's a pretty cool player nonetheless!

Jawbone #76: Illicit Love for Bellybuttons

It's mid October, so let's do a show. On tonight's episode, I reveal an illict love I have and breakdown and cry about it, I call Nora a man, and try my best to sing Coldplay. Hey and don't forget about the Sugar Coated Show happening this weekend!

We also are starting to like the American version as well, although the earlier shows were trying too hard to be like the British version.

Regardless, I came across this great caricature of Ricky Gervais who plays the character of David Brent, the pathetic boss of Wernham-Hogg. Great drawing, great expression. It makes me want to go and watch the DVD's all over again.

Jawbone #75: Nora and the Designer Hats

Can you believe it gang? We've made it to show #75. Seventy-five! That's just 25 away from being at show 100. Hopefully we'll be able to get there, but let's take one show at a time.

On this episode, Nora and I try to explain to our new audience members who we are, what we're all about and why they should be listening to such a fine show. We get some great e-mails and voice mails and more. We also make another plea for submissions for the Jawbone Open Mic Podcast Show. You can win stuff! Join us, won't you?
