Evel - Dead

Ladies and Gentlemen, daredevil Evel Knieval is dead.
"Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

Knievel had undergone a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of hepatitis C, likely contracted through a blood transfusion after one of his bone-shattering spills."
See the whole story here. Thanks for Mark for the heads up.

Zombie Roaches?! AIGH!

Got this from an Monster By Mail fan today:
"Israeli scientists have figured out how turn cockroaches into zombie slaves. They're replicated the mysterious power of the jewel wasp, also known as the emerald cockroach wasp, which incorporates the cockroach into its reproductive cycle in a most gruesome way."
Check it out here.

Jawbone #184: At The Browns Game With Art

No, not Art Modell. But fellow Filipino and Lakewoodite, Art. Art invited me to a Browns game and we recorded a show from the game this past Sunday. We chat about the Browns, being Filipino and we talk about art being my own personal stuntman. Listen in and enjoy!

Coming Soon: Monster #1000

Believe it or not, I am less than 100 orders away from drawing my 1000th Monster By Mail. For this monumental moment, I wanted to do something special. So here's the deal, folks. If you are the lucky person to order the 1000th monster, your order will be done up as a 9 x 12 image (instead of the regular 4 x 6) and painted, ready for framing.

Since this is the holiday season, there's no telling when I may reach this milestone, so order today! Plus. if you want to ensure you get your monster in time for Christmas, get your order in by December 17th. (Remember if you're outside the US, the cut off date will most likely be the 15th.) So head on over to Monster By Mail and order today!

Not The Same Sesame Street

I found this story pretty interesting:
The earliest episodes of “Sesame Street” are available on digital video! Break out some Keebler products, fire up the DVD player and prepare for the exquisite pleasure-pain of top-shelf nostalgia. Just don’t bring the children. According to an earnest warning on Volumes 1 and 2, “Sesame Street: Old School” is adults-only: “These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”
Read the whole story here. Thanks to Monica for the link.

Monster #900!

I've been so busy, I totally overlooked that I received my 900th Monster By Mail order yesterday. I will probably be drawing it in the next day or so, so I'll update this post when that happens. If you haven't been one of the people who have ordered one of the 900 drawings I've done since March, this is the perfect time! I still have some time before Christmas and as you know original monster drawings make wonderful holiday gifts under the family tree!

Nobody's Listening to Jawbone

Last night, I had the distinct honor of being a guest host on the podcast Nobody's Listening with James Kennison. I tell a very touching story about the birth of our first child with a gastrointestinal capper on top. Interested? Then check out the show here. Good fun!

Do You Need Security?

The next time I need some muscle when I go to the store or maybe want to go jogging late at night, I think I'll hire these guys. Why the hell not, right? Found in the jawbone mailbox.

On a related note, what is with Indians? Thanks to Monica for the link.

What Being On Crack Must Feel Like

Thanks for Nephew Mark for sending me this disturbing video. Has everyone lost their minds?

"Honey, Honey" Oops...

Poor guy. I wonder what happened between these two after this went down. And do you think this guy was really dating her? Or was he just an amorous co-worker?

Jawbone #182: I'm The Foreign Guy Who Drives You Around

On tonight's show, I welcome Dan and Julie Coulter to the fray. They save me from doing a solocast, which you can thank them personally for later. We discuss videogame deals, holiday shopping, movies, etc. Also, I'm dealing with a low-grade cold so excuse my voice. Enjoy the show!

Best Deal of the Day: Super Mario Galaxy for $3.50!

Yup, it's true. I picked up the new Mario adventure for the Wii for just $3.55 at Gamestop. They're running a promo where if you trade in 5 or more games, you get an additional 30% off. I don't want to sound like a GameStop shill, but damn, that's a great deal. If you have any old games, you may want to trade em in for some of the newer ones coming out. I haven't played Super Mario Galaxy yet, but I'm sure it will be worth the $3.50 I plunked down.

Okay, so I know that the next season of American Idol doesn't start for another 2 months. But that doesn't mean we can't have some fun with it. Here's a photo me next to the real (?) Simon Cowell. If I were Paula, what would I be saying? Hell, if I were just me what would I be saying? Have fun!

Gnarls Barkley On the Theremin

Busy and tired as you can expect. But this video sent over by Dan The Whiz Kid got my interest up. From the video description:

"This video is an experiment to see how rapidly the theremin can be injected into the world's collective consciousness. It's amazing that not everyone knows what a theremin is. It was one of the first electronic musical instruments ever made and it was invented in 1919. Are Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley really theremin players? There's only one way to find out!"
Gnarly! BTW, did you know P. Diddy had a new perfume? Tis true!

Jawbone #181: Hello World!

Please join me in welcoming the newest member of our family, Kateri Elizabeth Peralta to the world. Born at 11:30 P.M. on 11/4/07. She weighs 7 lbs. 7 oz. She is extremely healthly, incredibly cute and adorable and even more than that, pretty relaxed. Nora is doing fine and recovering from an emergency unscheduled C-section (more info on that later). Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts during what was a pretty scary procedure. I plan on recording a small podcast later today, just to get my thoughts down while they are still fresh.

I'm sure there will be more photos and possibly some video to follow in the coming days. In the meantime, you can see a photoset of her first two hours on this earth. That is all.

UPDATE: I have recorded a short 10 minute podcast about last night. You can listen to it from one of the links below.

Cinematic Titantic: An MST Battle Brewing?

Nora and I have been enjoying Rifftrax the past few months. For those of you not in the know, RIfftrax is the MST-like riffing on popular (and not so popular) films and shows by former MST3K frontmen, Mike Nelson (interviewed on this very podcast in 2006), Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. They are high-larious to be sure.

But now it would seem that the creator of MST, Joel Hodgson, is out to start his own riffing venture with original MST frontmen (and women) at the helm called Cinematic Titantic. From the site:
"It’s going to be powered by the original cast of MST3K! Trace Beaulieu, J. Elvis Weinstein and yours truly, along with some friends who came along later to make the show great: the beloved Frank Conniff and the scathingly brilliant Mary Jo Pehl."
Should prove to be interesting. Perhaps Joel would be willing to come on the show and chat? Anyway, thanks to Neil for this find.

Jawbone #180: No, No Baby Yet

To answer your question, no, no baby yet. But what you have is a solocast with just me. At some point, I go monologuing and I sound like a crazy person. But that's the beauty of solocasts! Anyway, enjoy some stories from Hallloween, me on the Discovery Channel some voice mails and a lot of monologuing. Enjoy the show. Hope it doesn't hurt too much.

Meet The Next Rodney Allen Ripple!

Ok, maybe it's a bit of a stretch that I would be able to claim such fame as Mr. Ripple. But I can say legitimately that I will be appearing on a TV near you before the end of the year. The two parodies I submitted into You Spoof Discovery were accepted and will appear on the Discovery Channel. You probably will not see full versions of either on the show, so you can check out the original unedited versions right here:

And here:

I'll keep you updated as I find out more. Woot!
