I got a call from FOJ (Friend of Jawbone) Dave Devries last week. And he let me know that not only is our son Max's artwork "The Good Man" featured in this summers Spectrum Annual, but Dave's painting (based on Max's artwork) won a certificate of merit at the Society of Illustrators Members Open last night. We were floored. Both Max and our daughter Siena's artwork is on display at the Society of Illustrators Gallery in Manhattan until the end of July. If you happen to be in the area, check it out.

Dave's Monster Engine site is under a revamp that should happen next week, so I cannot yet show off the real artwork, but I can tease a bit. Here is the original artwork that Dave based his paintings on:



It goes without saying we are incredibly proud of Max and happy that Dave is getting such high accolades. I take full credit. :)

Also, according to Dave, along with the site revamp and some other cool artwork he's working on, he has a really big announcement coming soon that is VERY cool. We'll probably have him on the show so he can talk all about it first. Stay tuned to Jawbone for more details.

Jawbone Wedding Photography is now open for business. I'm kidding. Ok, half-kidding. This was a portrait that was done for The Knightwise Podcast for his wedding happening next month. They didn't hire a wedding photographer, so they opted for a portrait done by yours truly. All I can say is Borgs Rule!

Taking a break from techno and synths for a second, let's switch gears and serve up a grand old guitar riff. Today's riff comes from The Smithereens. This isn't my favorite song by the Reens, but it's still a good one. Try and get this tune out of your head today. Whee!

No, we haven't podfaded. Not yet anyway. But we are working on a few interviews for future shows that seem to be happening all at once. One interview is particularly exciting and I don't want to jinx it yet until we get a real confirmation, but rest assured it will be very cool for everyone. It was a very strange day indeed when Ministry's Alan Jorgenson and Paul Barker went from Depeche Mode dance-style pop to fist-banging hardcore industrial overnight. But it did usher in the great heyday of Chicago based record label Wax Trax. Jourgenson went on to influence others such as NIN's Trent Reznor, Fugazi and more. This is the signature song off their 1988 LP, "The Land of Rape And Honey." It was also the cause of much controversy during my first year on the air at WBWC. It ended with the DJs not being allowed to play this song during regular rotation and not before 9 PM.

The sweet sounds of Germany are coming at you today on Jawbone Radio. This was one of the very first songs I ever heard by Kraftwerk and still remains one of my favorites. I remember making fun of the album when I was a kid. Now I can appreciate automaton German music for all it's worth today.

On Show #115, we made a plea, albiet a weak one, for listeners to help send us to the Portable Media Expo on Ontario, CA in September. True, the request wasn't very well thought out, but a few days of Ricolas and a lot of Hot Wings helped clarify things.

We figured we would roughly need around $800 for two round trip tickets to California and for hotel accomodations. So as of right now, we are starting The "Help Send Jawbone to the PME" Campaign. Here's what we're doing: You can start donating by clicking on the graphic below. This will take you to a form to donate.

For every donation over $50, you'll get an actual original 8 1/2 x 11 black and white drawing done specifically for you by me and delivered to your doorstep via the US mail.

Also for any donation you make, you will be placed into a drawing for a guest spot on an upcoming episode of Jawbone Radio.

Lastly, for the first person who donates over $200, you will get an original drawing (your choice) of one of the Jonathan Coulton "Thing A Week" Images. These are pretty valuable to me and it pains me to let any of these go, but I'm willing to do it for the good of the show.

Got this video yesterday and there is so many weird things about it, I don't even know where to start. First off, it's a Bollywood Beatles cover, which is strange enough. But then the guys playing the Beatles look like wax figures. Then all of a sudden, about 30 seconds in, the Bollywood version of Taylor HIcks comes convulsing in from the right hand side. He looks like Joe Cocker after eating curried chicken laced with PCP. Anywho, it's all too much to take. But I guess that's why I dig it. Thanks to Brian from Coverville for the link.

Oh, man. This was a great song back then and still is a great song today. Former Bauhaus frontman, Peter Murphy, graces us with some good ol' atmospheric goth rock for a Wednesday morning. This, along with Bryan Ferry's "Is Your Love Stong Enough" is probably one of my favorite "tunes in a pinch" meaning I enjoy sidling up to random people and pinching them during the song. Enjoy today's flashback!

Worst Video Game of all time? According to OwlBoy, it's not Fester's Quest as we stated on show 114, but this game which managed to get a 1.0 ABYSMAL rating from Gamespot. In all the years, I've been surfing GameSpot, I've never seen that before. And quite frankly, I'm kind of upset that I did. BTW, you may want to check out the video of the game at the very bottom of the page just to see how really bad it is. Unreal! (Incidentally, just picked up Daxter for the PSP...great game! If you have a PSP, definitely check it out.)

If you really want to play some good games though, Wayne in the UK sends us this site that allows you to play Classic 80's Arcade games right from your desktop. Star Castle is in even in there! Woo Baby! Come on Sugar!

This week's Link Dump features photos from lsteners. So I guess we can call this the "Jawbone Scrapbook" portion of LD. Or something clever like that. I got nothing.

Recently, I've gotten some pretty cool photos from fans and listeners and I thought I'd share two of them with you. The first is from Dan Burke who we featured at the end of show 111. They played a cover of Jonathan Coulton's song "First of May" in front of Swem Library at William and Mary. According to Dan, they got attention from various folks:

"We actually performed the song twice. The first time, no one was really listening and I think we scared away an old dude. The second time, we played for a really hot girl, and she enjoyed it."

Hilarious. Lucky for us, they documented the event on black and white film and shared it with us. You can see a large version of their photo here.

Batwoman as a Lesbian?

DC Comics is resurrecting the classic comic book character as a lesbian, unveiling the new Batwoman in July as part of an ongoing weekly series that began this year. "She has some past connection with Bruce Wayne. And she's also had a past love affair with one of our lead characters, Renee Montoya."
