Holy crap! I thought we had found the replacement for Denny Blazin Hazen with the Stanley Kubrick guy, but this might take the cake. As one of the comments on this video said, "it must be very sporting of them to allow actual retards on the music charts." Oh Lord... Thanks so much for Marm in the UK for this video.
On this very special episode of Jawbone Radio, Nora and I talk about the wrapup from the big Birthday weekend, we chat about Nora's awesome birthday gift, and share stories of our possibly haunted house. Come along for the ride, peeps!
Found this interesting search engine. I'm undecided. I think the gal is rather annoying..like Jeeves with a bad attitude. Anyway, thanks to Homey for the link.
Once again, I'm selling a bunch of pretty decent Star Wars stuff for a buddy of mine who is thinning out his collection. If you're interested, go bid now! Lots more stuff is going to be put up in the coming weeks, including Simpsons and Wonder Woman stuff as well!
--- On show #131, Nora and I dissed the new Ted Danson comedy "Help You, Help Me". As it turns out, it's not as Becker-ish as we had originally thought. In fact, listener/reader Ryan sets us straight by sending us these series of clips, featuring "Freaks and Geeks" creator Judd Apatow. Watch and decide for yourself:
--- Neil sends us this site and trailer for the NEW CHRISTOPHER GUEST FILM! Seeing as how we are huge fans of "Best in Show" and "Waiting for Guffman", chances are good that we will love this fllm...
And finally, let me leave you with this link (also from Monica). The movie is Network from 1976. And the message holds true, even moreso, in today's world than we probably want to admit:
And that is your Link Dump for today! Now, get to your meeting...
Quick quiz: Has anyone else ever heard this saying? Is this real or is someone just trying to pass off a new catchphrase? Is this yet another "Bees In A Bakset"?
Got this image from our friend Monica: (click to embiggen)
"One of the guys here at work received this email. Take a look at the image. Yes, the people are bad, yadda yadda yadda… but look at what else is in there… in the upper left-hand corner. ?!?!?! Thought you’d appreciate this one."
It's our pre-Halloween show! We have a fun opening with the winner of our "Send Jawbone To the PME" contest. Plus, we have another installment of Customer Service Theatre. We also discuss past, pathetic Halloween stories and so much more. Thanks for subscribing and please enjoy the show!
ON EDIT: After some complaints on the original "Caption This" image, I decided to switch it up to something more...tasteful. If you still have the old photo in your cache, I suppose you can still caption it, but it won't make much sense with this new image, however.
...this is the moment you have all been waiting for.
JONATHAN COULTON WILL BE PLAYING CLEVELAND!
Yes, it is official folks. JoCo will be playing a one night show with comedy music duo Paul and Storm at Wilbert's on November 30th @ 8 PM. You cannot imagine how incredibly pumped I was when Paul e-mailed to tell me they secured the date. Rock on with cha bad selves!
Also, you may also be interested to know that Paul and Storm have just released their new CD this week called "News To You: Songs from the Bob and Tom Show," which features, along with hillarious comedy songs by Paul and Storm, a duo with Jonathan Coulton.
Oh, I also designed and drew the artwork for the entire CD. I've never done that before, so it was a great opportunity. For those who are interested, here's what that looks like. (Notice the Bob and Tom Zombies --or Tombies -- on the front cover.)
So what are you waiting for? You can buy your own copy for posterity here.
BTW, for those of you in Columbus, I believe Coulton will be playing down there, too, but that hasn't been confirmed yet. So if you play your cards right, you might be able to see them play twice in a row! But at the very least, Nora and I will see you all at the Cleveland show! Woo-hoo!
I love this video. If I had a huge blank wall and nothing but time, I would be doing something like this constantly. Someone should do this, but for a year. Now that would be cool! Thanks to Bryan for the link.
I know this is old, but it's still pretty cool. Print out these paper toys for Halloween and decorate your home! My personal fave is the Battle-hearse.
Not only does this play in directly with my work with the Zombie Army, but there is also an art contest associated with the paperback edition of the book:
"We invite you to create a graphic image inspired by the events recounted in the book. We'll choose one winner and the winner's art will be featured on the WorldWarZ.net website. In fall 2007, the art will become part of the paperback edition of World War Z, where it will live in perpetuity!"
Check out the whole deal here. I tried sending some images this morning, but they messages came back undeliverable, so perhaps they are still working out the bugs. But I'll be sure to keep checking.
For those of you who enjoyed the BroLo Interview, I went back and added two new songs to the show as well as making it an AAC file that will show chapters, links etc. You can download the show here.
On this episode of Jawbone Radio, we talk to the man, the legend and the musician Larry Florman AKA Brother Love. He chats about his brush with Reality TV fame, his take on music and personal relationships and his music in movies and TV. He also spills where the name Brother Love came from. Also, we debut our first installment of "Customer Service Theatre".
You may want to note that this show is our first, and hopefully not our last, enhanced podcast. If you check out your iTunes Art, you'll find links to stuff we've talked about and also other fun photos. Hopefully it will work for you. Let us know!
EDIT: The Enahnced Podcast is not downloading in iTunes, so if you'd like to see the hard work we put into the links for the show and chapters and all that fun stuff, check out this file here.
...besides visiting us of course. A local resident has decided to buy the house where "A Christmas Story" was filmed in 1983 and turn it into a tourist stop:
"The Grand Opening of A Christmas Story House, now restored to its movie glory, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 25. Also opening directly across the street from the house is the official A Christmas Story House Museum, which will feature original props and memorabilia from the film, as well as rare behind-the-scenes photos. Actors from “A Christmas Story” who played Randy, Flick, Scut Farkus, Grover Dill and Miss Shields will officiate the opening ceremonies."
For those of you not from Cleveland, you have to understand...this is a very big deal. Before A Christmas Story, the only movie of note that was shot here was "Those Lips, Those Eyes" with Frank Langella. What a pile of crap. Oh, and some parts of "The Deer Hunter" were shot in Cleveland's Little Italy. Come to think of it, American Splendor was shot right here in Lakewood. And this past spring, we saw the crew of Spider Man 3 blowing up cars right downtown on Euclid Avenue...
But A Christmas Story! Come on! This movie is such a time-honored, iconic tradition every Christmas. Our neighborhood actually looks a little like the neighborhood in A Christmas Story. It's one bright, shining moment in Cleveland history. And I, for one, find this very cool. So, start making your plans today! What a great way to kick off the Christmas season...by spending it with Messy Marvin!
This is from an assignment my son, Max, did for school. He was to write sentences. And this is one that he did.
First off, no. I did not ask him to do this. And even if I did, I doubt I would tell people to go to Zazzle, without mentioning the real URL which is http://www.zazzle.com/jawboneradio*. Notice that he didn't add the Zazzle Star (*) which is of the utmost importance.
Secondly, I would have had him put a few images from the shop, just to let people know what I was selling. Sheesh. Give me some credit, why dont'cha? ;)
(Actually, I'm mildly embarassed. I haven't talked to his teacher yet to see what she thought about it. More importantly, I wonder if she would be interested in buying anything from me.)
I found this awesome video today while checking out another Code Monkey video on You Tube. I really like this video. And I think the reason is because the young girl in this video has the same haircut that Nora had when I met her in college. Plus, I'm a sucker for redheads. Anyway, I can see this dance really taking off in the club scene, or wherever you little hooligans and whippersnappers hang out nowadays.
It's another palindromic show! Thanks to John Hodgman for the special intro. On tonight's show, Nora and I chat about competive eating, we solicit workout ideas from our listener as well as stories for our upcoming feature "Bad Customer Service Theatre". Sit down and enjoy the goodness that is Jawbone!
BTW, thanks to Dan and Julie Coulter for procuring the autographs of both John Hodgman AND Jonathan Coulton for me during a recent jaunt to Chicago. Much appreciation!!
JuCo (AKA Julie Coulter) posted this pic of an actual colored page from the Jonathan Coulton coloring book I created. It's cool to see it in color. I haven't even made copies for my own kids to color, so it's great to see people are enjoying . BTW, have you picked up your copy? If not, click here and stock up for the holidays!
Yes, it's yet another clip from Bollywood. I really love this clip. But it still deserves to be captioned. I am so torn! I'll let you guys decide what to do with it. Thanks to Apelad for the link.
With JoCo on tour with Hodgman, and the TAW experment over and done with, I've decided to go back and start drawing the Things A Week that I didn't do yet. This is the first TAW that was released a little over a year ago called "See You In Hell." Be sure to keep checking the Thing A Week set for updates as I get them done.
On the latest episode of the The Bitterest Pill (which incidentally, is one the best solocasts ever produced -- no joke) host Dan Klass laments the fact that he was so busy at the Expo, that he never got a cartoon that I promised him. So here it is in all it's glory. I really hope he enjoys it. Otherwise, I think I may just keep drawing it over and over again until both he and I are happy with it. Or my carpeltunnel kicks in. Or both.
BTW, listen to the newest episode of The Pill, where he relates our first meeting. High-larious, folks.
Star Trek as a reality has gotten one step closer:
"Physicists in Denmark have teleported information from light to matter bringing quantum communication and computing closer to reality. Until now scientists have teleported similar objects such as light or single atoms over short distances from one spot to another in a split second. But Professor Eugene Polzik and his team at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough by using both light and matter.
The experiment involved for the first time a macroscopic atomic object containing thousands of billions of atoms. They also teleported the information a distance of half a meter but believe it can be extended further."
What would I do without ELR? Scott found this hilarious video of a wedding singer choking on her mic. You have to see it to believe it. Too bad it's not the cleanest video ever. If there were a valid arguement for spending money on HDTV, this would be it.
We are skipping Show 131 right now for a reason yet to be disclosed. So, bear with us as we give you SHOW 132. On this episode of Jawbone, we talk about our thoughts on the Podcast and Portable Media Expo in Ontario, CA this past weekend. Tales of the weekend and more abound like crazy. Hope you enjoy it.
FOJ Dave Devries informed me of a group show that he is a part of going on right now:
You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby is a group show curated by Murray Tinkelman. Sixty illustrators will exhibit a self-portrait depicting themselves at some point between birth and puberty. See your favorite illustrators as "cutesy little toddlers," "dorky brats," or "punky prepubescents." This show will be veritable family album of contemporary American illustrators happening September 6–October 14, 2006
Check out the show here. And be sure to check out Dave's contribution to the left. A little ditty called "Follow Your Dreams".
I finally was able to upload the photos to Flickr, so check em out here. Lots of cool photos and more. We'll definitely chat about it on our show. Stay tuned!
Something a little different for Caption This this week. Try and figure out which weird alabaster celebrity influenced this Bollywood production. And write funny captions about it. Cheers! Thanks Scott!
With all the excitement of the weekend, I forgot to post this here. This is the Visual Thing A Week for Jonathan Coulton's cover of "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions". This, of course, is the final Thing A Week by JoCo and no new ones will be released in the near future. The good news is that I will be going back and drawing all the remaining Things A Week that I missed. Congratulations to Jonathan Coulton for completiing 52 songs. As the kids say these days. "that was the shizzle."
Well, the PME is over and we are now enjoying some well-deserved downtime with some family in CA. The weekend was a complete blast and I expect to have many photos and stories to share on the podcast and on Flickr. It was great meeting everyone at the Expo, including a bunch of Trypod members and also podcasting icons like Dan Klass,Brian and Tina Ibbott, Eric Rice, Andrew Baron and Joanne Colan, and countless others.
Pictured above are two people I didn't spend quite enough time with over the weekend: The Pickleman and Podcheck's Scott Fletcher.
