I really liked doing this VTAW this week. I remember watching those ABC After School Specials growing up, and after listening to JoCo's latest song "Big Bad World One", I thought "Man, this could be a theme song for one of those episodes." Or a Judy Blume-esque book. Or both. Blame my indecison on this one.

Ok, so I just had an idea for a little viral experiment. Let's call it the "Spread Some Ed" Campaign. I'm interested to see how far we, collectively as the net, can throw Ed in one week. Feel free to use the link to the animation of Ed. Or just grab it and host it on your site. Whatever you have to do, I don't care, just spread Ed anyway you can. Make a blog post with him in it. Post it to Digg.com. E-mail him to a friend. If anyone stops you, just say that you are participating in a wide Internet experiment to "Spread Some Ed". if they still look at you weird, run. And then blame Mel Gibson. That's pretty fashionable these days. In any event, I'd be interested to see where Ed ends up. It may be almost 100 degrees in the Midwest today, but damn -- this college video is WAY hotter. This is an unintentionally funny college recruitment video with one of the worst jingles ever written. As one YouTube visitor commented: "I wish I could unwatch it." So true. Via BB.

Colbert Messes With Wikipedia, Gets Banned

"On Monday's night's episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert addressed the online resource Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that anyone can read or edit. Colbert praised Wikipedia for "wikiality," the reality that exists if you make something up and enough people agree with you - it becomes reality. Colbert's subsequent examples to prove "wikiality" would cause chaos on the site, and lead an administrator to subsequently block his account."

Stan Lee's Who Wants To Be A Superhero

Ok, so I Tivo'ed Stan Lee's "Who Wants To Be A Superhero" last night on Sci-Fi and I have to say, I was fairly impressed. If you can get past the major geek factor of people who have made up their own characters and thier lousy costumes (Cell Phone Girl? Come on...) the premise of the show isn't too bad. Stan Lee is looking for superhumans, not superheroes. He wants the kind of people who would do the right thing in any situation...he wants real bravery, chivalry, concern and care. I'm excited to see the next episode, even though it is on Sci-Fi...

Since the BB link and being listed as a populr link on delicious, we have had an influx of members and drawings. Jawbone PME Fund: Update

Here's just a little update on the Jawbone PME Pledge Drive.

First off, thank you to everyone who has contributed to the fund. It certainly means a lot when people plop down their hard-earned cash to help us out. Thank you one and all. Through your contributions, we have raised close to $600.00 already. That means we are only about $200.00 away from our goal. I'm writing now to put out one more push for the drive. August is almost here and I'd like to secure the tickets sooner than later, as the longer we wait, the more expensive the tickets will become. I'm decided to kick in the final $100.00 toward our travel. That leaves us at a goal of $100.00! Pretty easy to reach. So, if there is any small donation you can give to get us to the final $100, it would be greatly appreciated. Everyone who contributes will get a real drawing by me, delivered to your home and also a chance to win a guest spot on an upcoming epsiode of Jawbone Radio.

Thanks again for all your support and donations. Words cannot express our gratitude. Hopefully we will be respresentin' at the PME at the end of September!

UPDATE: Oops. Math is wrong. It's actually close to $150 with my $100 kicked in. Right now we are at $631.00. Hopefully, this is not too much to ask. :(

VTAW: Creepy Doll

Hot damn! I have been waiting for an opportunity like this for weeks now and today it finally came. This is the Visual Thing A Week for Jonathan Coulton's song "Creepy Doll". I wanted to do something really weird and monsterish and this is pretty close to what I had in mind. I think I will post my original drawing for this just to show the direction I was going in originally. The original drawing looked like a creepy little girl, but lacked those creepy doll-like qualities that I felt were in the song. Regardless, this is good and monsterish and a VTAW that I am proud of.
