VTAW: Famous Blue Raincoat
Famous Blue Raincoat

I wanted to go even more sparse than this, but I didn't know if it captured the desperation (at least I think it's desperation) of the song. You can listen to the song associated with the image here.

If We Can't Get Blazed...
And if you can't get enough of this song, go here. And crank it up, man!
Link Dump: Round Up Of Random Weird Stuff Issue 4
This link dump has everything you'd want: robots, GWAR-like metal singers, DVD commentaries by fans and so much more. So let's get to it!
----
From Randy: The video for "Ray" by the band Millenicon. As Randy puts it, " You just don’t see enough of good music videos with airplanes fighting giant robots." We wholeheartedly agree.
----
FROM THE MAY HAVE SEEN IT ALREADY DEPT:
For those of you who love seeing a lame dork jam out to his own music, check out this. Then check out this cartoon. Thanks Nephew Mark!
Also from Mark, today's weird experiment with sound waves is called Cornstarch Fingers. Oh, and who can forget The Family Guy Roll Call.
----
A few weeks ago, we posted a link to a fan-based DVD commentary by Jawbone Troubador, Jonathan Coulton for Raiders of the Lost Ark. Pretty cool idea, no? Well, what's even cooler is that someone has made software that let's you sync up the fan-based commentary with the DVD. Developer Steve writes: "Users simply download a commentary, then assign it to any portion of the DVD. From that point on, the DVD and commentary stay in sync -- even as you fast-forward and rewind the DVD. Cool stuff. "
Cool stuff indeed, you can check it out and download it (windows only for now) at Sharecrow.net.
Incidentally, I'd like to be able to do a show like this in the future where we're commentating along with a specific DVD. Stay tuned for details!
---
From Wayne in the UK: These guys sang a pretty ballsy song for the Eurovision Song Contest -- kind of like American Idol in the UK only with bands, it would seem. The song proclaims the band is the winner of the contest, although they came in 6th place. Oh well, can't blame them for trying.
Also. if you're looking for a band that has a lot of spirit gum, prosthetic cheeks and fangs, Lordi should tide you over until the next GWAR concert. Just watch.
----
Also from Wayne, the Sci-Fi Spelling Bee.
That should keep you busy at least through lunch. Thanks for the links folks and keep em coming!
Congratulations to American Idol Taylor Hicks!
...and welcome to pop culture obscurity, Season 5 runner-up Katherine McPhee! Be sure to be on the lookout for Kath's new release this summer, a duet with none other than the Millenium Falcon co-pilot and everyone's favorite wookie, the mighty Chewbacca! Kalli Welpa, Solo!

"Lost" Jumping the Shark?
For me, Lost came dangerously close to jumping the shark when it tagged a Hanso Foundation spot with the URL http://www.subLYMONal.com, which was a less-than-subtle tie-in for Sprite. I say it came close because, by and large, the Sprite brand didn’t distract from what was going on in the game. And the subLYMONal site did fulfill its function, which was to provide a clue for game participants. You can read the rest of the article here.

Chugging along with these Weekly Visual Experiments. Here is this week's Jonathan Coulton's Thing A Week, Tom Cruise Crazy.
Tom Cruise is a tough guy to draw. I did no less than 5 sketches of him to get to this point. Plus, it was tough finding decent reference material for the kind of face I wanted him to make. Regardless, here it is!Touchscreen Computer Display
As the manufacturer describes it "Heliodisplay images are not holographic although they are free-space, employing a rear projection system in which images are captured onto a nearly invisible plane of transformed air."Check out the amazing video here.

Coulton Meets WOW
Man. My world keeps shrinking. Here is a video for Jonathan Coulton's Re: Your Brains acted out by The Undead and more from the World of Warcraft Universe.
Seriously.
Not only that, but I think the main character is an Undead Priest, which is my main character in WOW. (Just hit level 50 the other day, BTW, ding!) Nora hasn't seen this yet, but I'm sure when she does she will definitely think the world has gone plum crazy! Check it out!

Last Night's Weird Survivor Finale Moment
But he said something last night that made us think that perhaps there was more to his rivarly between million dollar winner, Aras and himself. The question that host Jeff Probst asked was about the father/son type rivalry between Aras and Terry. This is what Terry said. This will probably end up in the feed for our show and many people will be wondering the same thing we were wondering when we watched it last night...WTF was Terry talking about?

Happy Mid May to everyone! This week's Caption This is another one from DJ Hojo. Have fun! UPDATE: Danni from the Borderline sends me the story behind the pic. Kinda sad really. I am insenstive. See? If you don't check the blog, you miss half the show!

Old News...But Still WAY Cool
For those of you who haven't seen the hottest thing to come off the E3 show floor, check out the trailer for Nintendo's new system, Wii. All I can say is good for Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft look so stupid right now. Way to beat these guys at their own game. Woot!

Adam Hughes Five Part Sketching Video
Man! What I wouldn't have given for the Internets when I was a young lad learning how to draw. Continuing with the art-themed posts as of late, I was sent this collection of sketching videos from comic artist Adam Hughes. It's like Scott Johnson's Diary of A Cartoonist on steroids. Great insight into the whole process of drawing from concept to finish, plus it's just damn fun to watch. What you're watching above is part one of five. But definitely check out all of them. Thanks to Tracy for this incredible link!

Fans of Lost: Take Note
Fans of ABC's Lost are about to find a slew of compelling reasons to pay extra close attention to the smash hit drama—even after the current season ends. The show's creative team, including co-creator Damon Lindelof and executive producer Carlton Cuse, have engineered a sprawling interactive challenge to keep viewers immersed in the Lost universe during the hiatus between the end of Season Two and the start of Season Three. Officially dubbed "The Lost Experience," the globe-spanning game will incorporate multiple media platforms (including online and television) and feature a distinct storyline outside the plot currently unfolding on TV's most mysterious deserted island.
Looks VERY cool. Check out the site here. Courtesy of AdCritic.com.
I Crush Everything
About this image: For years, (ever since I was about 18 or so), I've been trying to draw like one of my idols, Bill Sienkiewicz.I bought Stray Toasters and poured over the pages studying the lines and techniques, trying to mimic the style. It used to kill me that I couldn't paint like him. I fell apart at the bristol board and just gave up, disheartened. Flash forward to the digital age. I buy a Wacom, learn Photoshop and voila! I can draw!
Actually, it hasn't been that simple. It has literally taken me years to get this right. And for the first time, I feel I've done it. So, this is a total homage to one of the great masters of comic art and art in general. I am gracious for the inspiration.
Link Dump: Round Up Of Random Weird Stuff Issue 2
GUEST UPDATE: Robot Uprising author and Show #98 guest, Dr. Daniel Wilson looks like he's one step closer to having his book made into a movie. Look who has been tapped to star in it. Thanks for the link Matt!
-----
Speaking of comic artists, I'm gettin' tons o' links to other cool ones out there. Check out these doodlers, courtesy of 700 Hoboes compadre, Ben (with comments from Ben):
Nate Lovett: "In my mind a very underrated artist. He's got a very Ben Caldwell like style. I keep making fun of the fact that he's going to be a huge success in a matter of seconds and we should all just thank the Intarweb for letting him slum with us. He's in Columbus."
Jeremy Dale "He's a long time friend of mine since the time when there was a Wizard School message board. He's currently doing his own book through Ronin Studios and has done some work for Image on Todd Nauck's Wildguard."
Loston Wallace "He is just a great guy and good friend. He's a pro comic artist who's done work on Elvira and other things for Image and DC (that I know of) and is currently working with Micah Harris on a book called Strange Passages. He's VERY knowledgeable and one of the most skillfull artist I know.."
Stay tuned to future shows with possible interviews with these guys!

From Tracy: Process Recess. Awesome art. Period. Check out the Dave Chapelle stuff.

Is Lost a repeat tonight? Check this site and find out. Thanks Steve!

DJ Hojo sends us some Spamusement! Now this is a great way to kill some time.

And finally, from the basement, Neil send us this link about an obese man seeking life-saving surgery. My question is, what is that part in front of him? Is that a pannus?
That should do it for now. Now get surfin. Also, REMINDER: The LIVE SHOW is tonight at 9:30 PM EST. If we don't take your call right away, please be patient. Just keep calling and we'll get to you as soon as we can. See you all tonight!

Smoking Monkey: I'm A Mason Now
Originally uploaded by jawboneradio.
Ok. I admit that I am going WAY overboard on these karaoke CD images. Way overboard. But I can't help it. I'm inspired. This is for a song called "I'm A Mason Now"and for some odd reason, this is my homage to werewolves. Incidentally, Dave Devries commented that he thinks my current work is looking like a cross between Ralph Steadman's and Gerald Scarfe. I wasn't familar with Steadman, but I love Scarfe. So I'll take whatever I can get.
