Momentous

We'll probably talk about this on the next show, but as of today, Nora and I are officially the parents of a teenager.

Why do I feel less prepared to handle a teen than an infant? Maybe because an infant can't punch you in the face. I kid, our son is a good tyke even in his old age. And I can't believe he has entered this phase of his life. So soon. Ironically, I feel like I have never left it, so what does it say about me? Regardless, Happy Birthday to my eldest and to everyone else who is sharing this day (you know who you are).

Run To The Hills

For those of you playing Rock Band expert drums, you know the pain that is Iron Maiden's Run To The Hills. I've often wondered if the RB chart is close to the real drum in any way. Well, this pretty much answers my question. This dude does Rock Band Expert Drum videos on The YooToob and he's pretty darn good. Oh and I should mention that if you are into Iron Maiden and love their zombie mascot Eddie The Head, you can join in the drawing fun at this Flickr group set up by my hobo buddy, Halcyonsnow.

It marks the first time a theatrical trailer has received a simultaneous, cross-network airing on Turner Networks. The Little Known DC Universe

Ambush Bug
Originally uploaded by jawboneradio.
So, over the weekend, I grabbed the DC Comics Encyclopedia. I've been wanting to get it for a while, so I celebrated Free Comic Book day by adding it to my collection of comic tomes. I was take by the number of superheroes that are so ancillary in the DC universe. Really, DC is founded on four, maybe five great marquee heroes. The rest (compared to the Marvel universe) seem like filler.

So I decided to start drawing these secondary heroes and give them some heroic due. I started with a request, Ambush Bug, (shown here) and Neon the Unknown a 1940's superhero who seems to be making a revival this year. I'm planning on doing more, until then, you can keep checking on the Flickr set I created. I'll also try to post as I do these.

How was your Free Comic Book Day?

Our Loot
Originally uploaded by jawboneradio.
Got back a little while ago and brought back a ton of free comics. Five kids grabbing one of each free comic, plus buying a little action figure for themselves is a lot of loot. If you went, share your stories.

Jawbone #204: Jog-A-Thon

Neil joins us for a show where among the topics of discussion are New Zealand, Minties, Illegal Tulip Picking, The Downward Spiral that is Lakewood, and of course - the Jog-A-Thon!

Neil (who is not at all a Fat Guy in the Basement), will be participating in a Jog-A-Thon on May 20th. The track is 1/8 of a mile. How many laps will Neil run in 45 minutes? Guess correctly and you can win your very own Monster By Mail--drawn by Nora, Neil or Len. To participate, click the comment box and agree to pledge some amount per lap. Then list the total you think he'll run. All proceeds benefit a local elementary school. Pledges are due May 29th. Or you can call our voicemail line @ 206.666.2326. Neil has agreed to host an episode of Jawbone Radio live on camera if he raises $142, so join in the fun!

Lots to take in, I know. But it's worth it. Enjoy the show!

The Kids Book Is Now Available!

Hey, remember that children's book I blogged about a few weeks ago? Well it is now available for purchase here. Here's what the author of the book has to say about it:
" I present to you a collaboration between myself and the formidable Mr Len Peralta of Jawbone Radio and Monster By Mail. Len is, I am sure you can tell by the thumbnail, quite genius with a pen, and he has vastly improved my meagre story with some of the most whimsical artwork you will ever see. [we have no idea what “whimsical” means -ed.]

The book is about a young bear named Owen whose second cousin, Panda, comes to visit. Panda seems like a mild-mannered boy, but whenever he eats his fruity snack at the end of the day, things go… well, a little bit crazy.""
Check out the whole post here. The download of the book is free, but of course buy a copy as well. if you can!

Suck On That, Wiki!

For those who have been longtime listeners of the podcast and readers of the blog, you may remember the Wikipedia debacle that plagued us a while back. Well, in some strange twist of fate, some Jonathan Coulton fans have started their very own Wikipedia project, named aptly The JoCopedia. As the name implies, all the information is centered about things in the Jonathan Coulton universe. Well, I checked it out and lo and behold, I have my very own page that was created by the users of the JoCopedia! I am very flattered to be included on the site and I feel it's poetic justice that I end up on a wiki - even if those editors of the Capital W-ikipedia don't feel I'm worthy to be invited to their sandbox. Fan created wikis for the win!

Random Moment

I did this a while ago and it seemed to be popular, so I thought I'd do it again.

1. Pick up the nearest book to you.
2. Turn to page 43.
3. Find the eighth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in the comments section.

Meet Ronald Jenkees

Thanks to Mark for turning me onto this guy. Check out his YouTube Channel. Lotsa good stuff!
