Anyone who has been a listener of our show for a while is familiar with our caller Richard in Savannah, GA. We have had correspondence via voice mail with Richard, but we don't have the slightest idea what he looks like.

So, I thought it would be a fun idea to sketch what we think Richard looks like. I would invite all our readers and listeners to submit sketches of your mental image of Richard and I'll post them to the site. You'll also be able to see all the sketches at my Flickr site. Multiple sketches are most cetainly welcome.

Perhaps one day, we'll actually find out what Richard looks like. But for now, let's try to envision what the man we've referred to as "The Perfect Podcast Listener" would look like.


EDIT: To make it easier for all people to join and enjoy, I've started a group over at Flickr that will allow people to upload photos to a group pool. All you need is a Flickr account, which is pretty easy to set up. Can't wait to see all your images!

March of the Monsters

We mentioned this on the show last night, but in case you are ignoring the show, I'll mention it here as well.

March 30th marks the 1 year anniversary of Monster By Mail. And I'd really like to hit the 1000 milestone by the 30th. As I mentioned on the show, I am just a mere 31 orders away from meeting that goal. And with this being the 29th of February...guess what? There are 31 days to March 30th! How convenient! So in order to TRY to make the goal of 1000 monsters before the end of March, I'm encouraging everyone to do their part and order at least one monster from me. Remember, the 1000th monster gets a free 9 x 12 upgrade and a fun MBM monster pack to go along with their order. TMBG in Cleveland Tonight

Well, one of my fave bands, They Might Be Giants, are in town tonight and I'm sick. These guys never come to Cleveland that often and I really wanted to go. Ah well. At least I didn't have to give my tickets away. Plus, I didn't have anyone to go with. Just thought I'd share.

Assassin's Creed: Worst Game Ever

Well, I just finished the game Assassin's Creed tonight and all I have to say is what a letdown. This was a game that had a lot of hype leading up to its release and was one of the games that a lot of people were looking forward to playing. Well, I played it and all I have to say is don't bother. While the game looks fantastic and Jerusalem and Damascus look brilliant, there's not much more to say about this game. The story is lacking, it's all button-mashing and overall the story is ho-hum. In fact, I think rather than waste more space on the internets with my displeasure, I'll let this article on Wired say it all for me. I agree with pretty much everything the article says. Oh well, another 600 points on my gamerscore. Yawn...

Portal Song Will Be In Rock Band

I actually kinda knew this was going to happen, but yesterday Jonathan Coulton and Harmonix confirmed that "Still Alive", the end song from the game Portal, (which was named Game of the Year at the Gamer's Developer Conference this past week) will be part of the downloadable content for the game sometime soon. For those of you who are not familiar with the song, you see all the different iterations right here on the YouTubes. I can't wait to play this. With JoCo no less. Whee!

Dog Paws, Anyone?

With the upcoming Summer Olympics happening in Beijing in just a few months, our good friends in China are being scrutinized worldwide for their eating habits. On Monday, the French version of PETA launched a petition aimed at encouraging China to ban, by the Summer Olympics, the killing of dogs for food. Heh, good luck on that. They'll probably keep doing it, but sell them as "chicken paws" or "bear claws" or something like that. Eech.

Anyway, this story is on the heels of this NYT story about the Olympic Committee shipping their own food in for the Olympics. Apparently, the Chinese Chickens are pumped full of steroids. Just like their athletes. Oops, did I say that?

Lego MMO On the Way

Michael sends me this cool article about an upcoming Lego MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) based on the Lego Universe. According to the article, it's geared towards kids age 8-12. I'm split on this. While Legos are full of win, I don't know if I would encourage my kids to play a virtual Lego world when they have boxes of Legos in the basement. Anyway, it's a few years off, so I may not have to deal with it for my kids. Good read, either way!

I'm On Yahoo! (Oh, And Coulton, Too)

Internet Rock Sensation and Design Slave Master, Jonathan Coulton, has a pretty keen piece about his ride to superstardom on Yahoo today. And, lo-and-behold, my Code Monkey artwork shows up about midway though the piece. I even have a credit at the bottom of the article! Yippee! I think I even spy my friends Paul and Storm in the Yahoo piece as well, the handsome devils.

I think this may be a good time to remind everyone that I predicted a year of the Coulton was coming soon when we first interviewed Joco back in January 2006. As the Yahoo piece proves, I think that the Year of the Coulton is upon us, folks. As we enjoy this extended celebration, may we all gain the power to be as shaggily handsome as JoCo himself. Ah yes. Good times. Good times.

The 100 Artists Project Auction

You may remember a few months ago, I talked about a project started up by my friend and fellow 700 hobo-er, Ben "Xadrian" Rollman, called the 100 Artists Project. 100 artists from all different walks of life contribute art for a good cause, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and the Hero Intiative. I am one of the contributing artists to the group, and an auction of some of the artists original work has just gone up on Ebay. The bound volume includes original art from myself, my buddy Adam "Ape Lad" Koford, Mike "Halcyonsnow" Peterson, Nate Lovett and Jeremy Dale. Check out the auction, bid on it, tell a few friends and help out a good cause. Incidentally, there's a poll at the official blog asking which interview/interviews should be included in the print version of volume one. If you haven't read mine yet, you can check it out here. Also, feel free to vote in the affirmative for me, natch.

Three Years Ago Today...

...I found a mic I had in my attic, fired up Garageband on my Powerbook and tried recording a "show" as a test. It was early morning, around 1:30 a.m., and Nora and I chatted about an upcoming home inspection we were about to face. It was short, running around 15 minutes or so, but it was, for all intents and purposes, our first official podcast.

Three years and nearly 200 shows later, we have found ourselves meeting hundreds of people and talking to dozens of guests who we would have had no reason to interface with otherwise. While a big part of our longevity in the podcasting world has to do with my undying tenacity and obsession to do a new show each week, we also would be nothing without the hundreds of people who have downloaded a show, written us a note, called in, bought my artwork, or somehow contributed to the richness of the show. I would have never have guessed what this show could become and the attention we would get from doing this silly little side project. It certainly has been a wild ride and definitely has been a lot of fun. And I have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive reaction we have gotten from the podcast.

I'd like to thank you all for reading, listening and contributing to the fabric of the show. We would be nothing without your participation and friendship. Please stay tuned and, if you haven't already, tell a few friends. Thanks once again and here's to a start to year four! Woot!

Meet McDonald's Creepy New Spokesperson

I don't know what McDonald's was one when they came up with this guy, but I personally find him revolting on several different levels. Maybe it's the Gabe Kaplan-esque hair and mustache. Maybe it's his haltingly forced attempt at humor. Or the overall lame, poser-slacker persona that he exudes. Or maybe because he just SUCKS! I saw the print ads in EW this week and they're even worse.

Phew, angry bitter advertising rant coming to and end. That felt good. What do you think?

The King Of Kong

Just saw the documentary "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" this past week. It's the story of two men in competitive classic arcade gaming and the lengths they will go to to protect their records. I actually, watched it twice, once with Nora and once with Neil and Nora. Hands down, it was one of the best documentaries I've seen in a while. I loved Steve Weibe and loathed Billy Mitchell. I've read a few things about Mitchell not being that thrilled with his portrayal in the film, but even if he is the victim of editing, he still said and did the things he did. If you haven't seen the film yet, go out, rent it and watch it. And if you're a gamer, you owe it to yourself to watch it. As Sexman says, "Foive out of Foive stars"
