The Jawbone Boycott Continues

Boycott Placard at a Fine Dining Estblishment
Originally uploaded by johahnsen.

Apparently, this image was caught at a steakhouse in Wisconsin. This seems to be picking up steam.

I'm telling you, if I hadn't lost my voice due to a terrible cold/flu, I'd be taking to the podosphere to battle back.

Soon, people. Soon.

The Quark Logo Ripoff

This has to be a designers worst nightmare. Quark, known for being hip on design and whatnot, unveiled their new logo earlier this month. Unfortunately, it bears a striking resemblance to the logo for the Scottish Arts Council.

Not only that, but at a discussion at Veer, a member points out how the logo is similar to an array of logos, most notably, this one and Veer's wallpaper.

All I know is that I'm glad I use Adobe products. Long live InDesign!

Speech Bubble Art

From Boing Boing:

Ji Lee printed 50,000 of these speech bubble stickers and stuck them on "movie posters, ads and signs all over New York City," and then went back and took photos of what people wrote.

Viral Crap From McDonalds

Maybe I'm just a jaded ad guy, but I'm starting to hate half-baked attempts at viral marketing.

Take this example from McDonalds. "The Lunch Hour You Deserve." Utter crap. I dare you to not punch your monitor while watching this.

The Best Burger In Cleveland

Nora and I ate lunch at Bearden's this afternoon. It's a burger joint that's been an institution in Cleveland for over 50 years. I hadn't eaten there for a while and decided to grab a bite to eat.

People, if you ever come out to Cleveland, make sure you eat there. They are hands down the best burgers I have ever eaten. They weren't greasy. The bun wasn't soggy or hard. Everything about it was absolute perfection. Seriously, you gotta eat there if you come into Cleveland for a visit.

See? We can be nice to restaurants if we want to. :)

Fifth Grade Devo

For all you Devo-tees out there, here is a short video of some 5th graders who have remade the classic "Whip It" video at their elementary school.

Check it out.

Playtime

Finishing up images for the Monster Art Shows happening next month. This might be the last one I do for the show. But then again, who knows.

This is for my friend Susan, who would have looked like the little girl in this drawing had she decided to become a rabid zombie as a child.

Sugar Coated

Getting ready for two gallery shows next month showcasing my Halloween drawings. I'm getting kind of excited. This should be really fun.

Below is an image for a possible t-shirt for the show, both in a black and white version and what I'd like to see the actual shirt look like. I guess we'll see what happens.

The Nightmare Factory

I am slowly running out of time to develop images for my Monster Art Exhibits happening this October. Here is the newest image to the collection. Eep. Better start crackin'.

So here we go...I really dig this one, moreso than the Evil Genius image I did last. I came up with this idea about eight years ago at my now defunct Cartoon Gallery, which appeared on my orginal site. It's actually a combo of two cartoons I did, one of a very Tim Burtonish shadow and the other of a darker Monsters Inc. interpretation. Here are the original cartoons, for your enjoyment:

I always liked the original black and white cartoons and wanted to do updated versions of them. Lo and behold, here they are. Finally, given the justice it deserves.

Wanna see a decidely American film?

Check out the film Sahara. While I don't have anything against American films, I felt this film was "overly" American, from the rock n' roll soundtrack, to the pacing, to the finale with the ocean and chick rolling around on a beach in her bikini, it's everything that makes American cinema American. Don't get me wrong, it's very entertaining, and well worth a watch. It's just a totally American film, that's all.

Maybe it's because I just saw the movie Kung Fu Hustle and really dug it.

Donate

There are a bunch of scam websites out there trying to take advantage of people who want to help with the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Katrina. Talk about scum of the earth. One official place to donate is at the American Red Cross. I will find some other legit sites and link them up here. Thanks to Lumpy from RadioStatic.AM for more suggestions.
