Let's Play Caption This!

I used to play this all the time at my message board, and I thought I would bring some of that fun over to Jawbone.

The game is simple. I post a picture and you give it the best (hopefully humorous) caption you can think of. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezie. Then we'll read the best ones on the show. So let's start with a photo of the face transplant woman:

"This face transplant went great. I just wish they wouldn't have put the Lon Chaney werewolf model on me"

Now it's your turn! Have fun!

CounterPoint on WoW

As a sobering counterpoint to the last post, I offer up this article, Videogame Widows.
"Kristan's husband, Allen, began his love affair with World of Warcraft one afternoon about a year ago, when he opened a demo CD for the game and started playing it non-stop. Kristan, who is 23, assumed he'd eventually get bored. Today, the 26-year-old gets home from his IT job at 6, inhales dinner and plays the online fantasy game until midnight. This he does every evening, except for weekends -- when he plays from 9 a.m. until 2 a.m."

Thanks to Karen for the link.

The International Geek Song

Spot on and frickin' hilarious! I gotta figure out how to get the song for our show. Check it out. Thanks to Rob for the link.

This is a totally self-serving post, but I am currently looking for a killer flash animator to help me on some flash projects, both for the show and beyond. Bonus points if you have actionscript experience. Please send me your info to jawboneradio[at}gmail[dot]com.

Disney On Ice - NAKED!

Something is very wrong with the costume designer for this show. I remember seeing the commercial for Finding Nemo on Ice about a year ago and both Nora and I had to rewind the commerical to make sure we were seeing what we were. Perhaps I'm reading too much into this photograph, but I'm seeing large, bulbous breasts on the front of those foam rubber costumes. It looks even worse on TV, because the imagery is flashing quickly before your eyes, edited with shots of seahorses and stingrays...it's designed to confuse the senses. I can just imagine a bunch of dads sitting slack-jawed and drooling over the faux breasts that skated before them, and the mothers suddenly realizing that they have just gotten discount tickets from Tops for a boob show. Odd. Very odd.

More Classic Jawbone in the feed. This is from March 5, 2005. If you've heard our theme song and wondered why D. Verada mentions chimps tearing faces off, this show is why. We feature a story about a couple attacked by chimps at a birthday party as well as feature a cover of Starship's "We Built This City" that was performed by the CEO's of Starbucks last winter.

The Best of Jawbone: Jason and the Redemption

As we approach our 100th show, we've decided to go back into the archives and put some old shows back in the feed that some of our newer listeners may not have heard yet. If you're a veteran listener and you've heard the show before, then sit back and enjoy some classic (cough, cough - rerun!) Jawbone Radio!

Today's installment is from March 10, 2005. This is an interview with a college grad student named Jason. Jason was the first person to take us to task for our interview skills and non-professional demeanor after our interview with Amanda from Rocketboom. He bashed us at the comment section at Rocketboom, so what did we do? We sent him an e-mail and got him on the show. It was an interesting show and in the end, we think we made a fan out of Jason.

It's interesting to hear us near the very begining of our podcasting career, and really nothing much has changed. Although, I do think about Jason before I start any interview.

Enjoy this blast from the past!

Dissing Campbell Scott

Poor Campbell Scott. The guy has the sad curse, of looking perpetually 15 years old. And he also can't grow a good mustache. I can't decide whether his mustache in The Exorcism of Emily Rose was real or a movie prop. Luckily, it didn't get in the way of me enjoying the film. It's probably the best movie about the rite of exorcism that I have seen in a long while. Very good film indeed.

7 Deadly Sinners

I've been meaning to link this up for a while, and a recent communique with the ever artistic celebrity ego hunter, Fourteen, reminded me about it. It's an art site called 7 Deadly Sinners, featuring the work of former Jawbone guests, Fourteen, Tom Bagley among others. I harbor a high level of jealousy against these folks and their talent. However, even with this burning envy, they always inspire me.

Introducing The "Buy Jawbone Some Stuff With Your Money" Fund!

There has been a lot of talk recently about podcasters shilling for money and donations to buy themselves stuff. And we here at Jawbone don't want to be left out in the cold.

So today, we have started a "Buy Jawbone Stuff With Your Money" Fund. That's right. Your donation will go buying us stuff. Maybe food. Maybe clothes for our children. Maybe a new 60GB Video iPod. For our children. All five of them.

With your generous donations, maybe we can go to Utah and hang with Scott Johnson from ExtraLife Radio. Or maybe go skiing with Brian Ibbot in Colorado. Or buy a Taylor Ham and Egg sandwich or two. It's all up to you. So please, won't you help us out? You don't want to make our kids cry do you? DO YOU?! We didn't think so. Just click below to donate.

Some British XBOX 360 Advertising

Cool stuff from our friends overseas, via Adcritic:

A new spot airing on the U.K.'s Sky network contains a frenetic video which can be accessed by pressing the red "interactive" button on digital remotes, treating the viewer to a fast-paced showcase of the Xbox 360's high-end graphics, games and features.

But London-based DiTV agency Weapon7 didn't stop there, taking the "easter egg" theme even further by layering a hidden game within the video. By hitting certain buttons on the remote's keypad, viewers can advance through a series of increasingly difficult levels, with the highest scores being awarded the honor of being registered on the spot itself. "

Check out this non-interactive version of the video here.

Now It Can be Told...

Since the holidays are over, and the dust has settled, I thought it might be fun to show off some images from a project that never got off the ground. By now, you probably have all heard Jonathan Coulton's Podsafe Christmas Song, that featured us as well as Adam Curry, and CC Chapman as an Alvin and the Chipmunk-esque band of singers. Shortly after the song was released, a few of us had bandied the idea around of possibly creating a video to go along with the song. The idea quickly turned to adapting all the podcasters featured in the song (including Mr. Coulton) as South Park characters. One, it would sort of fit the style of the song. Two, it would be relatively easy to animate. And three, the South Park characters were pretty easy to draw. So I went ahead and created South Park figures of myself and all the other characters in the song.

Unfortunately, real life and the holidays called and Chris from the Daily Download and Just Sue from Extra Super Action Show were unable to get the video completed in time. So all we have is the raw drawings that were meant to be animated. So here, for the first time are some of those images from the yet to be completed/started Podsafe Christmas Song music video!

This is the drawing of Adam Curry. In the song, Adam was turned into the brash and bratty Alvin of the bunch. We took that a bit further by giving Adam a doobie and some bloodshot eyes. I do not have any personal knowledge of whether the Podfather tokes it up in his spare time. This is what i was told to draw. Please do not come and break my legs, Podfather.

Here is the amiable and ever-loved teddy bear of a podcaster, Mr. CC Chapman. Once again, the fact that Mr. Chapman is a bit heavier in this rendering is not my doing. I was only being told what to draw! My original drawing of CC was very svelte, athletic and fit. This is not a personal commentary on Mr. Chapman. I happen to think he is a wonderful man. Once again, please do not send goons. I was only following orders.

And finally, here is the image of the master musician Mr. Jonathan Coulton. I was flying blind on this drawing since it was a bit difficult finding an image of Mr. Coulton to work from. A Google search of his name came up with different images of master brewers, pierogis, scotch drinkers and Dalaran wizards, hardly the sort of source material that would be considered reliable. After an exhaustive search however, I was able to find a fairly good photo to work from and I came up with this mumu-wearing fellow.

After writing all of this, I'm starting to realize why the video was never created in the first place. Probably better that way.
